So you want to strap a HD camera to your helmet and jump off a cliff? Well this used to be a bad idea for a variety of reasons…sanity being the first concern:) but recently there has been some tremendous innovation with small high resolution HD video cameras.
The GoPro HD camera is a fantastic new design in HD camera tech for the extreme lifestyle. I was at first skeptical but after getting permission to see 1080p uncompressed source footage from the camera I WAS IMPRESSED. The cameras come in a variety of configurations for car mounts, helmet mounts as well as a surf mount. The camera can take still pictures in addition to having a built in intervelometer for taking time-lapse images. In addition the GoPro can also record audio for all of your girly man screams for when you bail. I have seen some incredible footage from people using this with their RC planes and helicopters.

Thanks for the Comment James….go over to the Vimeo site and do a search for the GoPro HD..some great footage. Also do a search for FPV. Some really cool stuff!!!
Has anyone used these cams and it worked well? Any recommendations on which are best?
In my humble opinion, the GoPro HD is I think the most versatile and reasonably priced. As well they can be configured for a variety of applications, as well as the low cost of replacement parts. As for technical quality, I have seen the uncompressed footage out of the camera, and was very impressed with it. Also they now have live streaming video out of the camera so for the RC plane and copter guys you can send the video out via a down link to a HUD. Here is a good example in a Ski Movie.
Thankyou, I never knew that, appreciated.
